The Galah Regional Photography Prize has been created to encourage excellence in contemporary photography from regional Australia. The intention of the Prize is to celebrate, support and advance the practice of regional photographers.
Joining Galah on the judging panel are Susi Muddiman, Director of the Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre in Murwillumbah, and Tamara Dean, a critically acclaimed Australian photo media artist whose work has been exhibited in public and private collections in Europe, America and across Australia.
The judging panel will choose approximately 40 finalists across two photography categories: an Open category and a Student category (for Year 11 & 12 students). One winner will be announced for each category.
Open prize winner receives $25,000
Student prize winner receives $2,500
Entries for the 2023 Galah Regional Photography Prize close midnight Monday 14th August 2023. To be eligible, you must live in regional Australia. Our definition of 'regional' is most of Australia outside of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Eligible postcodes can be found here.
The Galah Regional Photography Prize is supported by our generous patrons including the Burton Taylor Foundation and M|Arts Precinct in Murwillumbah, and facilitated by Creative Partnerships Australia through the Australian Cultural Fund.
Please note: If you are entering multiple pieces of work, you will need to fill out a form for each entry. You must also pay an entry fee for each artwork. Entry fees can be paid here. If, for example, you enter four photographs, you must pay for four entry fees. You can do this as one transaction by adding four entry fees into the cart and then checking out, or one at a time, whatever you prefer.
